Electric Gate Kits
Electric gate kits are made up of the minimum required to automate driveway gates. For sliding gates this will be a single sliding gate motor, two safety photocells, two transmitters, receiver and control panel and gate rack. For a pair of swing gates, this will include two gate motors, two transmitters, a pair of safety photocells and the control panel and receiver.
Each kit will allow a qualified installer to automate driveway gates.
Electric gates need to be safe so any gate kit will have a pair of safety photocells as a minimum. The operation of an electric gate is controlled via signals sent from hand-held transmitters to the receiver which then communicates with the gate system control panel.
The gate motors that open and close automatic gates are an intrinsic part of gate automation kits. For a sliding gate, only one motor is needed while swing gates will include one gate opener for each gate.
As underground motors are installed in pits dug into the ground, these gate kits also come with the foundation boxes the motors are mounted into.
Adding keypads, intercom systems and push buttons for controlling access through electric gates is a personal choice based on how the homeowner wants to control their gates. For this reason, access control is an added extra.

The benefits of buying an electric gate kit over buying the individual components separately include pricing and simplicity.
Buying everything separately will always be more expensive then buying a kit.
The manufacturer has also gone to the trouble to make sure that all components of an electric gate kit work together with minimal effort.
Any single gate opener kit for a swing gate should include a gate motor, control panel and cabinet, pair of safety photocells, and pair of remote transmitters and matching receiver. A double kit will have two motors for a pair of swing gates plus the control unit, photocells and transmitter and receiver.
A sliding gate kit will include the sliding gate motor and the additional items above. Most irreversible electric gate kits will also include manual release systems.
Selecting the right electric gate opener kit for the requirements of the installation and end user usage is the first step. So, the size of the gates, duty cycle and any environmental factors such as wind blowing on the face of close-boarded swing gates needs to be considered.
Then, do you need a 24Vdc or 230VAC single gate opener kit for one swing gate, or a double kit for a pair of swing gates?
Do you need to add additional safety photocells or remote transmitters to the standard pair of each included in most electric gate opener kits?
Finally, while an electric gate kit will have the gate motors, control panel, pair of safety photocells and gate remotes, there will be items you will need to add.
Sliding gate kits do not usually include gate racking which is determined by the size of the motor pinion and gate length. Similalry, gate track is not included as this is determined by the size of sliding gate wheels. To ensure that an installer has the choice of using any existing gate track or if the gate is made by someone else, these items are usually specified separately from the gate kit.
Additionally, intercoms and access control systems can be wired or wireless and push button, audio only or audio and video, and are often specified by the end user. This means that intercoms and access control systems in general are not included in automatic gate kits and need to be considered separately.
