Sliding Gate Automation

Automatic Sliding Gate

Sliding gates are often used where swing gates would be difficult to install or where space inside the entrance is at a premium. They slide across the gate opening to one side of the drive. Automatic gates sliding open need space to one side of the driveway entrance that will accommodate more than the gate's width when fully open.

Sliding Gate Automation

Sliding gates move on wheels that run along a track laid across the entrance and into the space the electric gate will open into. The motor has a toothed cog mounted to the output shaft. This meshes with a toothed rack that is installed along the full width of the gate. As the cog rotates, these electric gates are drawn along their tracks.

An automatic gate that uses this method of operation can also be cantilever gates. These don't use tracks but are counterbalanced. Sliding automated gates can be used where strong winds might affect the movement of swing gates.

A single sliding gate is used for many driveways and a cantilever gate will cover wider entrances. But it is possible to use two sliding gates that open to each side and meet in the middle of the driveway. These bi-parting gate systems require two electric gate motors.

A tracked sliding installation should not be attempted where the drive slopes across the entrance. This places additional stress on the electric gate motor.
