Underground Gate Kits

An electric gate kit for double swing gates can be above ground or below the surface of your drive. An underground kit provides a discrete way to automated double gates but care must be taken during the installation. Firstly, the space at the base of each gate post or pillar each motor will sit in needs to be excavated. However, each underground gate opener is mounted inside a foundation box which must be installed with sufficient drainage to prevent the motor in a gate kit from sitting in water for any period of time.

Each gate leaf has a top hinge but the bottom hinges are the output arms of the electric gate motors. Careful alignment is required during the installation of gate automation kits underground. Each gate opener must be aligned with the gate hinge axis and they must be capable of carrying the weight of the gates.

When selecting the right gate kit, motor voltage has a bearing on the choice. 230V motors are strong but 24V motors can run for a limited time using battery backup or solar power depending on the weight of the electric gates. This is important as the output arms of these gate openers are mounted as close as possible to the edge of each gate leaf. As a result, the weight of the gate is being moved from the least efficient point and each motor works harder than a motor pushing and pulling the gate from further away.
